What are the aims and objectives of Pony Club?

A.

The aims and objectives of the pony club movement are:

To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all approved kinds of sport connected with horses and riding.

To provide instruction in Horsemanship and to instill in members the proper care of their animals.

To promote the highest ideals of fellowship, citizenship and loyalty, and to cultivate strength of character and self-discipline.

How old do you have to be to attend pony club?

A.

The year you turn 6 years old is the normal requirement.

When aren’t I allowed to ride at pony club?

A.

You can ride as a member up to and including the year you turn 25 years. After that you can be a member and help but you cannot compete at any events as a Pony Club member.

Generally members are permitted to ride on the grounds at any time, except when another organised activity, such as a school or competition is taking place.

How old does my horse have to be to ride at pony club?

A.

Your horse has to be 3 years old and they cannot jump until they are 4 years old.

Am I allowed to ride my horse in any bit?

A.

Not all types are allowed at Pony Club rallies and events. Hackamores are not allowed nor are running gags, double bridles or Dr Bristle bits. Curb bits with a chain are allowed but not with a cross over, hanoverian or drop nosebands. Dutch gags are allowed plus the usual snaffles.

How often are there pony club rallies?

A.

Most clubs have one rally a month. Our club has their rally on the 1st Sunday of each month starting at 9.30am.

What does the rider have to wear?

A.

A standard approved helmet, boots with a small heel. Jodhpurs and pony club uniform are encouraged but not compulsory.

Can I be a member even if I don’t ride or own a horse?

A.

Pony Club also caters for riders without horses.

What can Pony Club do for me?

A.

Pony club teaches the basic steps in riding and caring for your horse. You learn the basic veterinary skills, and farrier’s tools. You meet other people from all parts of town and the country. You learn to help and look out for each other and you can compete and represent your club.

When I leave pony club do I have anything to show for it?

A.

During your time with Pony Club, you can achieve certificates from the basic knowledge right up to a very high standard which is recognised world wide.

Can I come to pony club just to try it out?

A.

Many riders have their beginnings in this way. You may attend one rally and pay your insurance. If you enjoy it and want to come again then you pay the yearly subscription less the insurance.
